Dungeon Settlers Leveling, Prayers, Mana Stones

Experience is automatic. Levels are a ritual you pay for — until Greater stones vanish.

Leveling and Experience

Units gain XP from expeditions and combat. They do not auto-level. When the bar fills you perform a level-up prayer that spends mana stones, applies an offering, rolls stat gains from talents, and lets you pick an inscription. The unit cap is 12. Settlement buildings cap at level 5. This page is the economy of that ritual.

XP to each level (2 through 12)

30, 250, 567, 1,017, 1,600, 2,315, 3,167, 4,153, 5,273, 6,531, 7,926, 9,457.

The curve is roughly quadratic. Early levels fly. Late levels are a second campaign. Humans get a +15% XP racial, which is why they still feel good as glue on the race list. Leaving a Human bar full overnight inflicts Growth Fatigue (Mood −2) — pray or you invented a mood bug.

Mana stone grades

  • Levels 1–4: Lesser (low-grade) stones
  • Levels 4–7: Intermediate (mid-grade)
  • Levels 7–10: Greater (high-grade)
  • Levels 10–12: Supreme

Base quantity cycles 4 / 24 / 72 inside each grade band. Offerings then scale cost: Least 0.5×, Ordinary 1.0×, Plentiful 2.0×, with stat multipliers ×1.0 / ×1.2 / ×1.5.

The level-5 wall is real. Greater and Supreme stones have no reliable drop, chest, recipe, or merchant source in the current build. Plan to arrive at 5 with a balanced squad, not one level-7 vanity carry and three level-1 corpses. Spread prayers. The beginner guide already told you this; here it is the math.

What to spend stones on

  1. Two bodies to level 2 for Main8, then the Red Monster Rat.
  2. The guard and primary damage dealer to 4–5.
  3. A researcher if Intelligence is Exceptional/Genius and the lab is built.
  4. Stop dumping Lesser stones into Poor-talent flavour stats.

Plentiful is correct on a Genius combat stat while Lesser stones are common. After the wall, Least on everything that is not keeping someone alive.

Buildings vs units

Building level 5 is a different ladder (workstations, rooms, quality). Raising a bedroom’s quality fights treatment-expectation mood drops as units level. If you pray a settler from 1 to 5 and leave them in a shack, Normal management’s mood row goes +7 → −7. That is how veterans become problems. Upgrade the room with the person.

Clan rank is not a level

Clan rank uses contribution points, unlocks Elves at 2, and currently caps far below the seven ranks defined in data. It changes the recruit market, not a settler’s XP bar. Do not confuse the two progressions.

Practical loop

Run a short expedition, come home, pray anyone who is capped, start research, sleep in beds, repeat. If stones are short, farm a different floor so you do not deplete a region for a prayer you cannot afford anyway.

Leveling is how talents become numbers. Without stones, talents are trivia. Treat Lesser stones like ammo: craft the economy that finds them, and do not light them on fire for a Plentiful roll on a Poor Perception mascot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Why can’t I level past 5 easily?

Greater and Supreme mana stones barely exist in the current build. Spread levels; do not feed one carry.

Does XP pause while I wait to pray?

The bar can sit full. Humans take Growth Fatigue if you leave it there. Pray on time.

Should I use Plentiful offerings?

On Genius/Exceptional stats while Lesser stones are plentiful. After the wall, default to Least or Ordinary.

Do buildings use mana stones too?

Building levels are a separate cap (5). Stones are for unit prayers. Room quality still matters for mood and research speed.
