Dungeon Settlers Tier Lists
Races, weapons, and party comps ranked for the current Early Access build — not for a finished 2028 game.
Tier lists in Dungeon Settlers are loadout advice, not moral judgments. A Moderate-talent Human with a bed and a dining room outperforms a Genius Elf sleeping on dirt. Read recruiting and mood and food before you screenshot these ranks into a Discord argument.
This hub splits three lists so the header stays usable:
- Race tier list — Human, Lizardman, Elf (the only hireable set), plus notes on Dwarf / White Demon / Tal / Lycan stubs.
- Weapon and skill tree list — Sword, Blunt, Bow, Greatsword, Shield, Fire, Water, Nature.
- Party compositions — four-slot scripts for first week, mixed-race kitchens, and the Red Monster Rat.
How we rank
Ranks assume Normal combat and Normal management, Early Access regions Veil of Silence and Festering Burrow, and a player who pauses. Devastation combat inflates monster HP/damage up to about 1.5× and shortens respawns; that can shuffle caster value. Easy management hides kitchen mistakes. Check difficulty if your save is not Normal/Normal.
We weight:
- Racial aptitudes and work bonuses that you cannot reroll.
- How hard the race is to feed and house.
- Availability (Elves gated behind clan rank 2).
- Synergy with current skill trees, not with datamined future spears.
Talents still beat race. A Genius-Agility Human archer is not “wrong” because Elves are ranked higher for bows.
What a tier list cannot tell you
It cannot tell you to ignore depletion, skip beds, or send your only researcher into a swarm. It cannot revive a permadeath. It will drift when CanOpener adds races, weapons, or regions — watch the roadmap and Early Access notes.
Related systems
- Stats and talents — Poor through Genius growth tables.
- Traits and inscriptions — Gloom, Perfection, backgrounds.
- Leveling — mana stone wall after level 5.
- Combat — pause script these comps assume.
- Settlement — the factory that crafts the gear the list pretends you already have.
If you only open one child page, open races on day one and party comps before the first elite. Weapons can wait until a settler has a talent worth a tree.
Community arguments about “S-tier Lizardman” usually skip diet. Plant Rage is a −2 mood tax, not a meme. Rank with a kitchen in mind or your S-tier is a Mental Break waiting for a second Stress cap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is this tier list for endgame?
No. It is for Early Access with two story regions and three hireable races. Full-release lists will need new pages.
Should I reroll until I get Elves?
Not on day one. Elves appear from clan rank 2. Play Humans and Lizardmen; see recruiting.
Do talents override racial ranks?
Yes. Hire Exceptional and Genius stats even if the race sits in B. Race ranks assume average talent rolls.
