Dungeon Settlers Four-Slot Party Compositions

Guard, damage, ammo, and a reason to pause — plus a cook waiting at camp.

Party Compositions

You bring four settlers. Everyone else keeps the settlement alive. These compositions assume Normal difficulty, pause discipline from the combat guide, and that you inspected talents (recruiting). Swap names, not roles.

Leave at least one cook or hauler at camp when population allows. A four-person all-star team that returns to rotting food will pay in mood.

Comp A — Week-one “still alive”

  • Guard: Lizardman shield (or Human with a shield if the lizard roll was Poor Constitution).
  • Striker: Human sword.
  • Bow: Human or Elf.
  • Flex: second Human fire or a blunt lizard.

Goal: survive day-one halls and the Red Monster Rat. Craft Cloth, then Bone. Pack wood arrows. Do not take this comp into Festering Burrow’s nastier experiments without upgrading.

Comp B — Rank-2 Elf lab leak

  • Guard: Lizardman shield/greatsword.
  • Bow: Elf (Agility/Perception talent).
  • Nature or Water: second Elf or Intelligence Human.
  • Cook-striker: Human sword who also cooks at camp between runs.

Kitchen: vegetarian line for Elves, meat for the lizard. This is the mixed-roster tax. Worth it if the Elf research bonus is running while you dive (stats).

Comp C — Water doorway

  • Guard: shield-user.
  • Water caster: Intelligence talent; drop Bubblelings in the choke.
  • Bow: safe damage.
  • Blunt or sword: finish stunned targets.

Summons scale on the caster’s magic attack, so gear the mage, not the pet. Energy management is the failure mode — pause, drink, recast. Strong on depletion-positive floors where you want extra bodies without a fifth slot.

Comp D — Fire corridor

  • Guard.
  • Human fire.
  • Human fire or sword.
  • Bow.

Two Fire users will empty energy together. Stagger casts. Skip this if your Willpower talents are Poor. Lizardmen with −2 fire aptitude do not belong here.

Comp E — Misery idol (advanced)

Forgotten Idol plus Inscription of Gloom on a striker who hits harder as mood falls. Only if beds, food, and recreation are solved. Otherwise you invented a Mental Break. Read inscriptions before you copy a streamer.

Anti-comps

  • Four strikers, no shield. Funny until Rat Swarm.
  • Four Elves, no vegetarian kitchen. Carnal Guilt is not a personality.
  • Four Lizardmen, salad farm. Plant Rage.
  • Your only Genius researcher on scout duty. Permadeath does not care about the lab queue.
  • Empty quiver bow line. That is Comp A with a melee intern.

How to swap mid-campaign

Deaths happen. Do not force the dead person’s tree onto a recruit with opposite talents. Inspect the new hire, park them on camp jobs for a day, then slot them into a role the weapon list actually supports. Clan rank 2 Elf replacements can bump a Human bow off the expedition — keep the Human as camp cook so the kitchen does not collapse.

Expedition pairing

Short wood/grass trips can drop the caster and take a hauler with a spare pack. Elite hunts take Comp A or B at full gear. Overnight safe-floor attempts need extra food, not a fifth weapon. Depletion rotation still applies — a perfect comp on a 0-stack floor is a −50% region tax (expeditions).

If a comp feels weak, check durability and mood before you reroll the whole clan. Most “tier list failed me” moments are broken bone swords and Growth Fatigue on a Human you forgot to pray.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do I always need four people in the dungeon?

You may take fewer. Four is the cap, not a law. A three-person wood run that comes home beats a four-person wipe.

Who stays at camp?

A cook and anyone with research or farm talents you cannot risk. See settlement.

Which comp is best for the Red Monster Rat?

Comp A: shield, sword, bow, flex, Bone/Carapace, ointments. Details on the boss page.

Can I copy a streamer’s all-caster party?

On Easy combat, maybe. On Normal and up, bring a guard. Difficulty knobs are on the tools page.
