Infinite Abyss Guide

The Infinite Abyss is a standalone endless-dungeon mode in Dungeon Settlers, separate from the empty Forgotten Abyss region on the expedition map. It is marked as partly implemented in the current Early Access build. This guide covers what is currently known about the mode’s structure, mechanics, and how to approach it.

How Infinite Abyss Differs from Main Regions

Unlike Veil of Silence and Festering Burrow, the Infinite Abyss is not part of the story progression. It is a separate game mode accessible from the main menu or expedition select. According to the dungeonsettlers.wiki database (DS_B.0.4.19), the mode runs 20 descending floors with its own room templates and monster roster.

The key distinction: the Forgotten Abyss region shown on the expedition map is a separate, empty placeholder — not the same as the Infinite Abyss mode.

Structure and Floors

The Abyss runs 20 floors, each with its own combat layout. The mode uses a pool of room templates:

  • 20 Combat rooms — Direct fight encounters
  • 8 Treasure rooms — Loot caches, though chest loot is currently placeholder
  • 3 Corridor rooms — Connecting passages
  • 2 Portal rooms — Transitions between sections
  • 1 Entry room — Starting area
  • 1 Event room — Random encounters

Treasure rooms appear in bands rather than one per floor, and boss portals join the pool on floors 10 and 20, meaning you can fight mini-boss encounters at regular intervals.

Monster Roster

The Abyss has a roster of 42 unique Abyss monster variants. These are modified versions of creatures found in the main game, scaled for the Abyss environment. The roster runs the full spectrum from low-level enemies like rats and slimes up to elite-tier creatures including:

  • Stone Golems
  • Chain Knight Sentinels
  • Various slime variants
  • Slogels

Abyss monsters do not yet have their own dedicated drop tables — the current loot system uses temporary copy-pasted rewards rather than final Abyss-specific drops.

Combat Approach

Given the endless nature of the Abyss, treat it as a test of sustained party performance rather than a race to the bottom. Key considerations:

Build for sustainability — You will face 20 floors of combat. A party that burns bright for 5 floors and collapses on floor 6 is worse than a steady, sustainable composition.

Shield users remain critical — The Provoke and doorway-hold tactics from standard dungeon runs apply here. Without a dedicated tank, swarms will overwhelm casters.

Resource management — Carry more healing items and mana potions than you would for a standard run. There are no safe return points mid-descent.

Boss floors (10 and 20) — These portal rooms offer harder encounters. Treat them as checkpoints: fully heal, repair equipment, and rest before descending further.

Current Limitations

The Infinite Abyss is marked as partly implemented. The developers note the following known issues:

  • Loot is placeholder — Treasure chest rewards use temporary copy-pasted loot tables rather than Abyss-specific drops
  • No dedicated drop tables — Abyss monsters do not have their own reward tables yet
  • Incomplete scaling — Monster scaling across floors may not be fully balanced

This means the Abyss is currently best used as a challenge mode for experienced parties rather than a reliable farming route.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the Infinite Abyss in Dungeon Settlers?

The Infinite Abyss is a standalone endless-dungeon mode separate from the main story regions. It features 20 floors, 42 Abyss monster variants, and boss portals at floors 10 and 20. It is marked as partly implemented in Early Access.

How is the Infinite Abyss different from the Forgotten Abyss region?

The Forgotten Abyss shown on the expedition map is a separate, empty placeholder region. The Infinite Abyss is a distinct game mode with its own floor structure and monster roster.

Can I farm loot in the Infinite Abyss?

Currently, loot is placeholder — Abyss monsters do not have dedicated drop tables yet. Treasure chests use temporary rewards. The Abyss is better as a challenge mode than a farming route for now.

What are the boss floors in the Infinite Abyss?

Floors 10 and 20 have boss portals, offering harder mini-boss encounters. Treat these as checkpoints to rest, heal, and repair before continuing deeper.
